What is the one thing all great writing has in common?
Nobody sets out to write weak and forgettable prose. Everyone wants whatever they write to make a strong and memorable impact. So why is it many of us struggle to express ourselves powerfully?

Great writers or Speech Presenters adhere to Aristotle's Art of Debate. Authors/speakers have a Point or View, or perspective and must argue in order to persuade the audience or reader. Thus, they must logically convince
and establish P.A. N. T. S.:
P is Purpose or the main point (argument or Proposition or claim) Is the genre or speech to describe a scene, a narrative, or a complaint, or a request?
A is the Audience to whom the Writer/Speaker is arguing for or against a claim, proposition statement
N is the narrowed thesis or the subpoint that become the topic sentences or prongs: the X, Y, Z and function as the structure of the argumentative essay.
T is the proposition that you must prove through deductive reasoning or general to specifics; the proof is based upon expert opinion, a story, or a illustration.
S= is support or factual evidence, scientific data, inductive reasoning.

The ability to express oneself powerfully requires a few key components:
- A strong feeling to convey. No matter how much one writes, if there is no strong purpose to the writing, it is more likely than not to be meaningless dribble.
- A structure for delivering the message. Sometimes knows as a "method to the madness". Readers need to be able to understand the writer's train of thought, so the writing must be comprehensible.
- A solid execution. One can have a strong feeling to express and a plan to deliver the message, but the idea could fall apart when the pen means the paper. Or when the fingers meet the keys, in this age. Sometimes an editor is needed. Sometimes it's a matter of practice. Sometimes, the words simply come together just as the writer envisioned.
But even if you have all of these things to make your writing powerful, writing only has impact if the reader is affected. Some writings are well remembered despite not being amazing, simply because they became popular. Some writings are well written, but only read among a small niche of academics. One cannot guarantee their writing to have a great impact. Still, it is good to put in the effort so that maybe, just maybe, the writing will touch the hearts of its audience.

I would add that the reader is most often affected when the writer has been most honest.08/28/24

Remember this "PEAR"
- Purpose: Begin by asking yourself, "What is the purpose of this writing?" Is it intended to be a novel, novella, or short story? Understanding why you are writing shapes the direction and scope of your work. (i.e genre)
- Emotional Connection and Impact: A powerful story should evoke emotions in the reader. The power of written work lies in its ability to resonate with the audience on an emotional level. This is the most important part of PEAR.
- Audience: Knowing your target audience is very important. For instance, middle-aged women tend to be avid readers of true crime. In this case, you would tailor your writing to appeal to their interests. Consider what they enjoy, why they are drawn to it, and how you can incorporate these elements into your story.
- Reading: To become an exceptional writer, reading extensively within your genre is also important. By doing so, you gain a deeper understanding of what works and what doesn’t. It also allows you to identify what has already been done and explore fresh ideas to bring innovation to your writing.

All great writing is transformative. It affects readers and leaves them in a different place than where they began. Regardless of genre or style, great writing has the ability to change the reader — by shifting perspective, providing a deep emotional experience, or offering a new way to understand the world. By connecting with readers on a profound level, great writing transcends words on a page and becomes a catalyst for personal or intellectual growth.

Your next great piece of writing begins when you allow yourself to begin at the heart of your individual truth. When you express yourself honestly—no matter what form of writing you're undertaking—your audience will respond. Because human beings are moved by authenticity. The moment you try to fashion your expression after some notion of what is expected or most popular, because you lose the connection with your deep self, the writing suffers and is far more likely to come out bland and forgettable.
