Literature Reviews are looking up information (usually using Journal articles, which are found in your school's databases at your school's Library) on a topic. For instance, I would like to research how to grow roses. I would find a horticultural Journal (horticultural = about plants) and use keywords (Title, Author, Subject) to see what the researchers have written on the topic..

Then I would make a list of all the articles I found interesting and include them in my assignment.

A literature review is a critical part of a scientific paper in which the author summarizes and synthesizes the previous research on a topic to set the stage for their own particular experiment. Sometimes literature reviews are also done as a full scientific paper, in which case they tend to be more thorough and include a larger number of referenced papers.

If you are in a science class, you may need to write your own literature review as a part of a lab report or as a separate assignment.
