I find reading that the research paper's topic carefully provides the college student's an essential key solution to the following critical issues: 1. Pre-writing and Discovery----The thesis or Proposition 2. Reading Comprehension and The S-O-A-PS method is Aristotle's Rhetorical Technique, which stands for the following: S = speaker O = occasion A = audience P = purpose S = subject 3. See the author's biographical perspective, ethical values, and qualifications to establish ethos, logos, and pathos. (ethic, logic, and feeling) Then the student can see the person's stance, experience, and delivery. Look at the title, captions, and the audience or demographics: Who are the writer's audience? To whom is he/she speaking? What is the event? When? Where? Date and Time? What is necessary is to read the communication as performance either verbally or non-verbally. 4. Determine the emotional context, the intent and purpose of speech, text, subject? Are there hidden agendas? Be careful to read the hidden sources. The outline, the steps in finding the interrogative questions that require research, the planning of the processes of argumentation, and the the multiple revisions,, including rough drafts, first revised drafts, and second, third, and final peer-edited and proof-read paper, and publication. As a teacher of history, speech, and German, I am aware of symbols. Anita, mentor.
