Many students find reading comprehension difficult because of a number of factors. As a result of the COVID 19 pandemic, many students are now reading two or more years behind their peers. The weaknesses can range from phonetic ( letter sounds and blends) to Reading Comprehension of Literary and Informational text. Students need to derive information that is explicit (right there) and implicit (inferential). In order to develop excellent reading comprehension skills, the teacher should start the student from the area of need with high-interest text and then build on build on their acquired skills to meet the desired outcome.
