Yes! A person with dyslexia CAN 100% absolutely learn to read! Working with an experienced reading teacher (or tutor) who follows the program with fidelity and teaches reading "explicitly" while incorporating coordinating activities to reinforce the learning, one WILL learn to read!
Most Certainly!
Wilson Reading system is designed for students who have a language-based learning disability with a primary word-level deficit and require an intensive reading intervention. Students who are identified to receive WRS instruction are not able to engage with grade-level complex reading and writing tasks because they are not yet fluent readers or writers. WRS provides these students with the foundational and language skills that are necessary to access grade-level text.

About six years ago, I had a student who was undiagnosed with dyslexia and had poor vision. For the sake of the story let's call her, Amy. The school at the time thought Amy was just underperforming and that she was too preoccupied with art. I was able to prove to the school that Amy needed to be reevaluated and sent to have new prescription glasses. This student was a turning point in my career and made me realize not only that the answer to your question is "yes, you can read with dyslexia" but that your questions and expectations for reading are fundamentally different than just being able to read. Understanding your dyslexia is a huge part of that process too. You can learn how to read with dyslexia. No question.
