This student has phonics spelling skills and has learned sight words. They can identify and produce the sounds in the word with knowledge of the silent e but aren't stable using it. This is typical of the spelling stage "Letter Name Spelling" age 4-9. Practicing spelling patterns with manipulatives and reading decodable text will support the stage.
