Hello,
I use SketchyMicro as a tool to help me memorize large amounts of facts about microorganisms. SketchyMicro consists of a series of videos that discuss individual strains of pathogenic bacteria, and uses pictorial mnemonics to help you memorize facts about each bacteria. For example, Staph saprophyticus is urease positive, and it would be represented in the video as an ammonia bottle. Here is a link to the SketchyMicro video for S. saprophyticus on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1313930268656419
Skip to around 04:05 to where the video discusses S. saprophyticus. If you're too lazy to watch the whole video, heres what you need to know:
- It is a common cause of urinary tract infections (UTIs) in sexually active females
- urease positive
- coagulase negative
- novobiocin resistant
- catalase positive
