My approach involves building a good relationship with my students, determining their learning styles and tailoring the learning experience to their individual needs.

My approach to tutoring depends on the individual child. Every child has a unique learning style—visual, verbal, auditory/musical, physical/kinesthetic, logical, social, or a combination of these. My first step is to observe and identify how the child learns best. Once I understand their learning style, I develop a tutoring plan that aligns with their strengths and supports their needs.
In addition, I focus on identifying what motivates the student. Motivation plays a key role in learning, especially for young learners. By incorporating their interests, providing encouragement, and setting achievable goals, I help students stay engaged and build confidence. This personalized approach allows me to meet each child where they are and support meaningful, lasting learning.

My approach to tutoring is to listen first. I want to know what the goals are and then discover where we are in relation to those goals. Then we develop a plan or a map to achieving those goals. I strive to develop a good relationship with students and parents so that we can have fun along the way. Reading can be fun and it's foundational to education.

My approach to tutoring is to use a dynamic and active dialogue between myself, the family and the child being tutored. Learning is an active process for which one has to be engaged to benefit, learn and grow. If the learner does not have a goal, see a purpose, or have enthusiasm for the learning process, then the process will be futile. A conversation at the beginning of tutoring is needed to discuss what is working but also what is not working and what needs to change for success to happen.
My approach to tutoring is to first create a set of goals to work on. I work with mainly kids. I first talk to the parents about what their goals are and then the child about their goals. I then get to know what the child is interested in and base my curriculum around what they like. So if a child loves Bluey and Princesses, and needs help with reading, I would go to my local library and make use of the free resources they have there such as books, a printer, online sources, activities, and our great children's librarian. I also will use other free resources such YouTube, Khan Academy, and Complexly.
Because I am a substitute teacher, I am bound by HIPPA and FERPA. Anything that is discussed is confidential and will not be discussed outside of our classes together.

When someone asks me to tutor their child I know one thing: what’s happening at school isn’t working well enough. That tells me I need to think outside the traditional school box.
The first thing I do with a new student is to take time to get to know him or her. We talk, look at several websites for a topic that excites them, read a few passages so I can get a general idea of their comprehension, decoding & vocabulary level, & play with a few word lists. All the time I am listening to understand who this child or young adult is. I need to fit into his life. Then I lead her into a stunning book & we begin to identify lost skills, work with those skills & improving them.
Reading is such fun! You can go all over the world, in any time in history, exploring any aspect of life. Always remembering this, & always understanding it is my job to lead another person into this arena, is an awesome joy & responsibility. And it’s such a privilege.

Need Help with Schoolwork? Let’s Make Learning Easier Together
My tutoring approach is personalized, encouraging, and results-driven. I believe every learner—whether a young child, a high school student, a college student, or an adult returning to school—has unique strengths, learning styles, and goals. I take time to understand where each student is starting from and what they hope to achieve, and I tailor my instruction to meet their specific needs.
For younger students, I focus on building foundational skills and confidence, and I maintain open communication with parents or guardians. Understanding a family's goals and expectations helps me align my instruction and offer practical suggestions for continued growth at home.
When working with college students or adult learners, I offer a supportive, respectful environment where we can focus on both content mastery and learning strategies. I help students become more confident in their academic voice, strengthen study and time-management skills, and work toward long-term independence and success—whether in academic writing, reading comprehension, psychology, or general coursework.
Across all age groups, I aim to empower learners not just to complete assignments, but to grow into self-assured, motivated individuals who feel equipped to meet their goals.
My tutoring approach is one of compassion, understanding, and fun.
I first interact with parents or teachers (when necessary) to learn where they believe the student is struggling. If available, I will review their previous classwork, homework, and quizzes to understand the student's current comprehension level.
When I meet with the student, I will have worksheets and practice problems, and have the student work through them to understand the student's thought process. This will help me tailor my lessons to the student's needs.
Each lesson will consist of working through problems with the student and then having them try some on their own.
I will track student progress to assess if changes to lessons are necessary or if the student is achieving educational goals.
This is especially needed for subjects such as math, reading, and writing. Other subjects may not need practice worksheets or activities, but may need a detailed explanation an example walkthrough.

What is your approach to tutoring?
My tutoring approach is personalized, research-based, and student-centered. I believe every learner is unique, so I begin by conducting assessments to identify each student’s current skill level, learning gaps, and strengths. These assessments guide me in making data-informed decisions to design an individualized learning plan that meets the student exactly where they are.
I specialize in working with:
- 📘 Struggling readers and writers
- 🔣 Students with dyslexia, English as a Second Language (ESL) learners,
and Struggling Students who have Learning Gaps
- 🧮 Students who need targeted support in math, phonics, reading comprehension and
writing/spelling.
My sessions are a blend of homework help, foundational skill building, and targeted intervention. I focus on bridging learning gaps while also building confidence and independence.
I use engaging, multisensory activities rooted in the Science of Reading and Writing and best practices for math instruction. My lessons are designed to be fun, effective, and aligned with how the brain learns best—especially for students who have struggled in traditional settings.
Whether your child needs to catch up, keep up, or move ahead, I create a safe, encouraging space where learning feels both meaningful and enjoyable.
📚 Let’s build confidence by bridging those learning gaps.

I often approach tutoring from another angle than most--as a peer. It's only been 5 years since I was in highschool academics, and I have been actively tutoring 1st-12th grade material since that time, so I am very in touch with the way students are learning today, as well as what tactics and strategies stick. I've had a lot of success connecting with students one on one because they think of me more as an older role model student rather than an intimidating adult. Because of this, kids are more open and transparent about making mistakes, which makes the road to acknowledging where the student is going wrong and fixing small errors so much faster and easier. Along with being a focused instructor, I think it's also important to approach each kid individually with a level of friendship and understanding.12/04/25
