A Passion for History and Reading
I have a BA in History and I work as a Historical Presenter at a world renowned Living History Musem, Greenfield Village. The best thing you can do to make and keep kids engaged in history is to tie it in with our everyday lives. How did the Cold War impact us today? How would our lives be different if WWI did not happen?
I work in our weaving shop, and it is BORING for 12 yr old boys. BUT we have a loom called the Jaquard Loom, it was the first programmable loom. The design is created by a series of punch cards. So the Jaquard was actually inspiration for the IBM computer, which led to laptops, cell phones, video games, etc.
So that is just one way in which you can relate the past to the present in order to keep kids engaged.
