This is such a great question! I personally have struggled with depression and other mental health issues in the past, and have found that I am most likely to get out of bed and thrive when I have a mix of “small wins” and “big wins” planned for the day. A big win is a larger concept that drives you, like education or racial justice. Because the farm that I work on donates most of its produce to local food pantries, my big win for the day is often knowing that people in my community will directly benefit from the food that we grow, allowing me to see the big picture in small, mundane tasks. A small win is a little thing that you can do for yourself or other people to make your day fun and interesting. My small wins typically mean carving a few hours out of my day to do something that excites me, like engaging with a new art project or calling a friend.
