The same verb can be used in different ways. Each of your examples demonstrate verbs that are sometimes used as states of being and other times used as actions. If the verb is followed by how someone is feeling or behaving (fearful, sad, happy, quiet) it is being used as a state of being. If the verb expresses an action (felt my pulse etc), then it is being used as an action verb.
