Henna dye stains the outermost skin cells. These outermost cells are mostly dead and full of a protein called keratin; the outermost skin cells are shed regularly throughout the day.
Your body makes new skin cells in the deeper layers of your skin and they travel up to the outermost layer to replace your dead cells. Henna dye will probably be shed with the dead cells and then new skin cells that are not stained with Henna come up to replace the stained skin.

Henna only penetrates the top few layers of skin, so as you say wash your hands or rub the area with henna on materials you are exfoliating the skin so the skin with the henna deposited in it is exfoliated away.04/30/19
