But, one student specifically needs help with fluency and comprehension whereas the other student needs superior with phonemic and phonological awareness.
3. Introduce a specific skill and utilizing daily informal assessment and weekly to bi-weekly formal assessments.
4. Summative assessments will fully assess mastery of skill.

I use a combination of formal and informal assessments to monitor each student’s progress and guide instruction. From the very first session, I begin with baseline assessments to identify strengths, learning gaps, and instructional needs. These assessments help me create a customized learning plan that is targeted and data-driven.

To track progress, I use:

1. ✅ Initial diagnostics to pinpoint skill levels in reading, writing, and math
2. 📝 Ongoing formative assessments, such as observation, student work, running records, and oral responses
3. 📈 Progress monitoring tools to regularly evaluate growth in specific skill areas
4. 📚 Check-ins during sessions to review understanding and adjust instruction as needed
5. 🔁 Frequent review and spiral practice to strengthen retention and mastery
6. 🗂️ Individualized student folders or notes to document achievements and next steps

I also use the “I do, we do, you do” gradual release model, which helps me evaluate how confidently a student can apply a new concept independently.

First, I set clear learning goals and provide regular actionable feedback. I also use a combination of formative and summative assessments, as well as ongoing observations. My formative assessments may be in the form of brief quizzes and exit tickets using Quizlet, Kahoot or Google Forms. Student reflections on the covered material is another method of my formative assessments. The summative assessments may be in the form of tests or projects to evaluate overall learning.
