Text structure is a very important component of comprehension. If you understanding the structure, you can prepare your brain to organize the content. For example, if the text is a poem, I know to look for figurative language to deepen my comprehension. If the text is informative with many text features like pictures with captions, graphs, maps, etc., then I know those features are part of the text and by reading and paying attention to them, I can best understand the text.
