The (five)s are supposed to be subscripts.

I'm just going to solve this problem, without recourse to whatever the instructions are.

 

I take this to be a subtraction problem, where the numbers are written in a radix 5 system.

 

335 = 3(5)+3 and 145 = 1(5)+4  so this problem is 18 - 9 which equals 9 (in decimal system).

 

Nine is represented by 14 so that's the answer: 145
