Nursing school tutor, test taking strategy tutor
You may hear this term referred to as a "body double" in the ADHD world. I had one in college - coincidentally she was my ADHD bestie. Without her, I don't know how I would have made it through nursing school. She feels the same way towards me. Not everyone understands this concept when they do not have the same struggles that ADHD people do. Sometimes the simple act of having another person in the room with you - not even talking or interacting with them - will help you stay on task.
I HIGHLY suggest finding a "body double" or "productivity partner." Even if you have to get creative in this. For example, I have found that sometimes as an adult - in a non academic setting - in order to clean or get things done I can do any of the following to have a faux body double: turn on a podcast, turn on a live stream, call or facetime a friend or family member, have a Youtube video on, etc. Anything to make you feel like you are not alone AND bonus if it takes up the capacity of your mobile device - because this keeps you from "doom scrolling"
If you find that these options don't work for you - maybe hiring a tutor as a stand in body double that adds in a factor of accountability (and the fact that it is costing you money that you don't want to "waste") could be helpful for you.
This concept even applies in helping me go to the grocery store or run undesirable errands.
Don't let the need for a body double make you feel down. Humans are communal in nature - if you need or desire others to live your life in the way that you need to - you are just human. It can feel frustrating at times - but give yourself some grace.
If anyone needs a body double in the form of a Wyzant member - reach out and we can discuss pricing. I may offer special rates depending on the level needed for this.
