I believe that human beings attend to attract towards the familiarity of their own. We can see that throughout history. Differences in aspects, such as looks or even values, can often create a sense of fear and intimidation. It's the unknown that drives these emotions. With the importance and influence in media and its approach to inform people, it does feel more lonely if your experiences are not represented. Being as humans are social creatures, familiarity means connection.
