Take a look around your room and count all of the things in it that were NOT made in a factory. Have a number? It will probably be "zero" or "almost zero".
The industrial revolution allowed humans to mass-produce goods in factories, and that made goods cheap by comparison. Today, anything that is hand-made is usually quite expensive, and if we had to fill our house with hand-made items, we wouldn't have very many things.
Now google an image of a standard medieval peasant cottage. The reason they lived in small places with little furnature is because they lived before industrialism, in a time when everything was hand-made, and thus labor-intensive and expensive.
The industrial revolution allows all of us to live in the convenveient, modern ways we do now.
