You are reading with your child, and they read a word on page 1 perfectly, then when the same word appears on page 2, they seem as though they have never seen the word before? This could be an indicator that they are dyslexic (among many other things). They are processing symbols differently than someone who is not dyslexic. A person with dyslexia needs to learn phonics, phonemics, and phonological awareness using a multi-sensory approach. The Orton-Gillingham approach to reading is multi-sensory and it is successful in teaching people with dyslexia how to read.
