Hello Karim,
The word anger implies a much lesser extent of emotion them rage. For instance, if a person were angry, he or she might raise her/his voice. But if a person is feeling rage, or is "enraged", get out of the way. He or she may pick up a chair and throw it.
Rage implies a sort of out-of-control aspect to one's anger. I imagine this person- who had been held captive and probably abused & tortured- felt a lot more understood and protected when his liberators displayed rage, instead of just anger.
In conclusion, I would definitely pick A.
Many well-wishes,
