Stimulus for release: high blood osmolarity (body state when we are low on water - makes sense because water is a main component of the solution)
Effects of hormone: increase water reabsorption by kidneys
Aldesterone
Stimulus for release: low blood pressure (another body state when we are low on water)
Effects of hormone: increase water reabsorption by kidneys BY increasing sodium reabsorption by kidneys (water follows sodium)
Atrial Natriuretic peptide (ANP)
Works antagonistically to aldesterone
Stimulus for release: stretched cells in atria of heart or more simply: too much water in circulation
Effects of hormone: promotes excretion (urination) of sodium and therefore water (water follows sodium)
Hope this was helpful!
