From Sage confidently learn to read for meaning and much much more
Read some magazine and newspaper articles each day. Words you don't know will catch your attention.
First try to discern the meaning without using the dictionary. You will remember it better that way. Then use the words in sentences.
Keep a list of your new words and look them over from time to time.
Finally, invent some new words of your own. Why not? Someone invented each word we now use.

Reading is a fun, and easy way to learn new vocabulary. I will keep a notepad near by and jot down new words that way I can look them up in the dictionary. Once you have learned the new word you should try using it a few times in sentences throughout the day to transfer it over to your memory!

While you are reading, keep a dictionary nearby. When you come across a word unfamiliar to you, look it up in that dictionary. It's much more likely that you'll remember the definition, if you learn it in context when you first see it.
