Why are you interested in learning a new language?

In my own experience and working with students of all ages teaching them Spanish, I have found that the desire of becoming better is the number one motivator to learn a new language. Some want a challenge in something new while others are driven by business purposes or traveling opportunities. At the end, they are all motivated to learn the targeted language to improve themselves. When i was starting college, my English was not very good. I lacked the confidence to speak in public but I had a great desire to succeed. Even though the path to learning a new language has a lot of drawbacks and uncomfortable situations, it can teach you great lessons and drive you to become better. Learning a new language is an experience that you will value for the rest of your life and help you find the best in you.

Some things you could ask yourself to answer the question above would be: Why do you want to learn a new language? How could this benefit you (future work, school, travel, and career advances). How could learning a new language change/influence/or make a difference in your life? How does learning a new language help not only you, but others around you(be able to feel more comfortable in an uncomfortable setting). How will learning a new language strengthen those areas listed above? How will they specifically help YOU in those areas(do you have to fully understand English before being able to translate fluently etc.). How will learning a new language help increase your abstract concepts (in what ways and what abstract concepts)? When I am faced with questions like this, it is always easier for me to put instructions into questions so I can fulfill the assignment more directly. Hope this helps.
