Something happened at Fatima and Lourdes. As Paul observes, it was necessarily subjective and so neither provable nor disprovable in a scientific sense. But there are more choices than to believe or disbelieve. From different traditions and experiences we often come to different understandings of such spiritual events. They’ve also been studied by sociologists and psychologists on scales from the individual to world cultures.
I’m not sure what you mean by “evil influences,” but understanding is generally easier without using value-laden language.
