Roger Ackroyd made Christie a bona-fide mystery master. As with all her books, the suspense begins with the reading knowing there will be a murder. Once the murder happens, the reader knows that the perpetrator will be a known character. Christie created one red-herring after another, then shocked everyone with the answer.
