A is not correct as it uses effect when it means affect.
B is incorrect because the subject of the sentence is the box. To have subject verb agreement, you would say "the box is" not "the box are." It is tempting to see treats and see it is plural and think the treats are ..... but the treats aren't the subject of the sentence! They are the object of the preposition.
C. Him is an objective pronoun so it can not serve as a subject of a sentence
D. This correct! You have to lay something.... like lay a book, lay a shirt, whereas the subject itself lies on its own.
