the price per pound of the oranges and grapefruit?

Let x = the price of oranges

Let y = the price of grapefruit

3x + 6y = 6 Divide both sides by 3

x + 2y = 2

x = -2y + 2

5x + 4y = 6.40

5(-2y + 2) + 4y = 6.40

-10y + 10 + 4y = 6.40

-6y = -3.60

y = $.60/ pound



x = -2(.60) + 2 = -1.20 + 2

x = $.80/pound
