Proving that a value does not decay in the process of motion

Hi

How do I go about proving that a value for energy does not decay during the process of motion?

Thanks

This is a vague question.  Can you state a specific problem?

Of course. Here is one of the questions that I have been given.

Denote E(x, y) = (1/2)(my2) + V(x)
where x and y are the coordinate and velocity of
the particle. Prove that the value E(x, y) does not decay in the process of motion.

I have already worked out V(x) to be ((-k(x-l)2)/2)+c
