Two similarities:
The two males in these stories both interact with other people.
In both stories, the males challenge another character (the girl companion in Hemingway's story and the wife in Carver's story)
Two Differences:
In Hemingway's story the male's outlook doesn't change. Whereas in Carver's, the male's outlook does change.
Additionally, Hemingway's male character is casual in his interaction. Whereas Carver's male character is profound in his interaction.

Both of the stories are about a man struggling to see his life in a different perspective, and wanting things to be different then it is. Both men choose to believe that there is more for them if their lives were different. Both stories are about two couples struggling with their relationship and futures together. Carvers, Cathedral gives the reader a glimpse into a relationship falling apart and in Hemingway's story, the relationship is going through changes which are causing difficulties. Both of the stories are about the struggles that couples can face in a relationship. Another way the stories are a like is that they both show prejudice views and ignorance. The differences are that Hemingway's ends with no hope at all and the Cathedral was more optimistic and positive at the end. Also, their point of view is different. Carver uses the first-person approach while Hemingway narrates his story. Both stories had more similarities than differences.05/23/24
