Vector Genetics DNA

Question

You digest a 2000kb region of DNA with EcoRI and get three fragments. The middle fragment is 300bp. You take the middle fragment and clone it into a vector that is 700bp.

a) How large will the vectors be that do NOT contain your DNA fragment?

b) How large will the vectors be that contain your DNA fragment?

1 kilobasepair= 1000 basepair.

 

a) Vector alone is 700 bp long, so it is 0.7 kb

b) Vector with the 300 insert is 700+300=1000 bp = 1 kb.
