On their vacation, the Reikos spent 1/4 of their money on gas, 1/4 on food and lodging, and 1/8 on tourist attractions. What fractiib of their money did they spend? If they started with $840, hoe much money did they have left?

The fraction spent is

1/4 + 1/4 + 1/8 = 2/8 + 2/8 + 1/8 = 5/8 of the money spent

 

They have 3/8 left

 

3/8(840) = 3(105) = $315 left

The fraction of money they spend is the sum of the fractions

1/4+1/4+1/8=2/8+2/8+1/8=7/8

so the spend 7/8 of their money

what is left is 1-7/8=1/8

1/8 of $840 is 840x1/8=105 so $105 is left.
