Because learning should never be boring!
First: convert 2 1/8 unto an improper fraction.
Multiply 8 by 2, then add 1, and put that number over 8 (this shows exactly how many 8ths you have)
You should wind up with 17/8
Now: Remember that when you divide fractions, you actually multiply the first number (17/8) by the recipricol (opposite) of the opposite....the opposite of 3 is 1/3 (3/1 becomes 1/3)
17 1
--- X --- =
8 3
Finally, to solve, just multiply straight across the numerator and the denominator:
17 X 1 17
-------- = ----
8 X 3 24
Final answer: 17/24
