When we are stressed there may be a tendency to go into autopilot and do something either not constructive or helpful, or possibly even harmful, to our situation or health. Doom-scrolling, negative self thoughts, etc. may arise if we do not purposefully engage with our stress and seek to alleviate it. These generally require more effort, but will often help us feel better. Some great, research-backed examples include taking a walk (especially in nature), playing music, or talking with friends or family.
