What is the difference between a count and a non-count noun?

Like both mentioned above, a countable noun can be counted, for example, cars, four cars, trees, five trees and one house, five houses, etc. Many non-countable nouns are referred to as substances—for example, water, salt, or sugar.

This is a great question! A countable noun is something that can be easily quantified, or counted up. For example, you can count the amount of bottles, plants, or people in a room fairly easily.

However, there are some things that are not easy to count, like water, milk, or sand. While you can measure the volume of these things, you can't count them easily and individually like the countable nouns.

Another way to think of it is that you can count bottles of milk, but you can't count the milk in the bottle.

Like what was said above some nouns can be counted while others can't. For example cat is a countable noun. You can say I saw multiple cats or I saw a cat. Versus nouns like intelligence, you cant count intelligence. You cant say She has more than one intelligence.
