Learning is Fun
Historical non-fiction books are the most difficult genres for upper elementary students to comprehend because the children are so excited about discovering everything new in their world that reading historical non-fiction books does not feed their curiosity or thirst for new knowledge to share amongst their peers. Their lack of interest when asked to learn a historic, unused language which describes outdated objects and methods, is mistaken for a lack of comprehension. It is a will to not comprehend that which does not provide personal gain in their hierarchy of peers.
