Why is reading so hard for some people to learn?

Everyone is different. For some people, reading is a big challenge but maybe math or sports or painting is easy. But reading, just like anything else, can be improved. It's like practicing a sport. Say you are trying to improve your layups in basketball. You're going to practice layups over and over again, and soon you begin to get better. But to get to the point where you don't have to think about it to succeed, you really need to put in a lot of time. Reading is the same way. The more you read, the easier it will be and (this is the big payoff), the more fun reading will become.

Hello!

That is a great question. We all have different strengths and weaknesses. Some people really struggle with understanding new material in a classroom but are incredible artists, musicians or athletes. Some people haven't discovered their strengths yet, but will someday!

For those that struggle to learn, or to demonstrate what they know...do not give up! With strong support systems in place, you will reach your academic goals and go on to do the things you love best once school is over.
