Agile in terms of project management/personnel management is rooted in the understanding that things need to be flexible.
Breaking it down, agile is the ability to move fast. When applied to management of any kind, it means being able to "go with the flow" of things. For example, if your organization has a way of doing things for a specific service and it works out 90% of the time, agile means that the other 10% of the time your workers/consultants/deliverables can be changed in order to meet the needs that fall outside of the status quo.
More ability to make mistakes and more flexibility are it's key advantageous qualities for most project and personnel managers. Agile relies on customer feedback and a constant review/revise process that allows for more buy-in, both internally and externally. It benefits organizations by allowing for a more iterative, interactive process. It also provides individuals working within agile management systems more autonomy and flexibility, both of which are proven to help enhance happiness with work for employees and better achieved customer outcomes. Agile also allows for individuals to get things wrong without being raked over the coals, so to speak.
