- The muscles are typically bundled into type 1 and type 2 fibers. Type 1 is what we call our slow twitch muscles used for endurance type exercises (e.g. running, swimming, biking). Type 2 is what we call our fast twitch muscles used for more power type exercises (e.g. lifting weights, sprinting, anything "explosive"). So when injury occurs, the fiber grouping are disrupted and the process of healing occurs. Remembers, muscle cells do not regenerate so in the healing process, fibrosis occurs. The fibrosis disrupts the muscle fiber grouping and thus the same amount of power cannot be produced.
- One really important disease related to sleep is Obstructive Sleep Apnea. OSA is the leading cause of hypertension in the United States and often goes undiagnosed. Because of the cortisol cycle that is dependent on the sleep cycle. A change in sleep hygiene can very easily cause long term diseases.
