I wanted to add to Julie's answer that the first part of the sentence (up until "that") is the main clause on which the second clause depends. The main clause is a complete sentence and without it, there would be no need for the dependent clause that modifies/tells us more about it. Also, a dependent clause is not a complete sentence and must be connected to a main clause. This information could help in identifying and writing future dependent clauses.
