This is a systematic process of teaching that several reading programs embody. The five phases of literacy, development refer to pre-reading and learning the alphabet through the phases students go through as they become fluent. Beginning with alphabet (letter recognition) and learning phonemes, graphemes, and sight words to intermediate and fluent reading, several methods are employed to bring about student success.
