which early American value (social, ethical, moral) do you think is missing from our modern society?

What should Americans do about the change in values you have identified and researched? Should Americans bring back the value, and if so, how?

In order to answer this question you have to give a definition to three compounds being discussed. If you define morality as the value system laid out by a certain religion than my colleague has laid out a very biblical answer. You might also want to look at church attendance records. I would define Ethics as what the society as whole thinks is right or wrong. To decide whether this is decline or not I suggest looking at crime rates and civil rights movements. Lastly, for social I would define it as the way we interact with each other as well as are economic means. So this you will want to look at whether people feel connect as well as jobs reports. Given that real wages have not gone up in almost 50 years and multiple studies show increase feeling of isolation I would argue that social is value missing but there is a case for all three.

In my opinion, if individuals in a modern society had some morals, ethical and social values would fall in line.

In The Ten Commandants, we are told to 1) "Have no other Gods before me." Drugs, alcohol, and sex should not be an individual's priority. 5) "Honor thy Father and thy Mother." Treat your parents with respect; if you treat your elders with respect and listen to their advice, individuals might not get into so much trouble. 6) "Thou shalt not kill." That's a biggie considering how everyone thinks a gun or knife solves everything. In the last year, America has seen more violence and death than in the past 20 years. 7) "Thy shalt not commit adultery." Again another value that would prevent men/women from using sex for money. Honor the sanctity of marriage, be there for your children, teach them how to become good citizens of society that have strong social values and ethics.8) "Thou shalt not steal." An individual wouldn't have to steal if they learned how to work for what they got instead of stealing from someone else or living off the government. Get a job; learn some ethics, see what it takes to be a product of a productive society. 9) "They shalt not bear false witness." Why start trouble by telling a lie? An individual who has morals would know that it is not ethical to lie about someone just to make social gains. Having morals means to respect and treat others in such a way that would allow you to fit into society, have enough ethics about you that you would know what is right from wrong, and hopefully be able to guide others to the same values.
