What is the number one skill tested on the Praxis Core Reading Test?

Reading comprehension is probably the largest tested skill on that particular Praxis. More specifically, being able to make inferences and draw conclusions from text. You may see those skills show up through questions asking you to do the following:

1. Identifying the main idea or central claim (main idea = what the passage is about; central claim = what the author is arguing as true)
2. Understanding implied meaning of the text (what the author is suggesting, not just what they are saying)
3. Using context clues to determine word meaning
4. Determining the author's purpose and tone
5. Selecting evidence that best supports an answer choice (the Praxis is VERY fond of giving answer choices that are all mediocre, but you have to choose the best out of the ones given. I find this is where many students get confused).
