A neat trick is taking a look at the first sentence in some paragraphs. Not every single one, but some of them are topic sentences for bigger ideas in the book.
When they ask you for key points, they are asking you what you learned, what are some big things you now know? Biggest difference between just some random new fact and a key point is it's going to be important to the whole story. So not something like his favorite color was blue, but more like he loved to do this hobby (especially if that hobby had something to do with his career later on).
