I am an adult, and am still terrible with spelling! How can I get better!?

With just a bit of effort, you can conquer this issue forever! I mean it!

First, realize that if you develop a solid memory technique, to remember a word spelling, That "trick" will stay with you forever. DO you remember all of the states or planets? If so, it is likely because a great teacher taught you a memory trick at one time!

So, take the time to gather the words that you usually misspell. And go through each one and put the time in to develop a memory trick. For example:

Do you misspell BELIEVE all fo the time? Perhaps you transpose the I and the E. Well, the trick is: there is a LIE in BELIEVE! Now you will NEVER misspell that word again.

Some people learn to spell easily. Others struggle for years, especially those with dyslexia. There are 4 ways we spell. You may find some references if you look for scientific spelling.

Phonetically, by sounds. f a s t. Closed syllable for the a is short.

Situationally, theposition of the letters. ((k) sound in the initial or medial position is represented by the letter k if it is followed by an e or i. (k) sound in the initial or medial position is represented by the letter c if followed by an a, o, u, or consonant. Ken, kit, can, cot, cut.

Word spelling formula - 1 syllable word with a short vowel followed by an (f) is spelled with ff, (l) is spelled with a ll, (s) spelled with an ss. The floss rule.

Try to memorize Irregular words that you will use most. 15% of our words fall into this category.

Not all words need to be committed to memory; most words conform to spelling rules, so you only need to memorize the ones that break the rules. The "trick" is to master the spelling rule.

In this case, remembering "I before E, except after C, or when sounded as AY as in neighbor weigh" would help you spell BELIEVE correctly. It will also help you with all words with this pattern, so you don't need to have a separate trick for every word. Don't give yourself more work than is necessary.
