From struggle to confidence, I will get you there
Some experts state there are six syllable types, and others say seven. The six, plus the possible seventh, syllable types are as follows:
- Closed, or consonant-short vowel-consonant, as in the word "cat"
- Open, or consonant-vowel, as in the word "go"
- Silent "e" or long vowel-consonant-silent "e," as in the word "cake"
- R-controlled, or vowel-r, as in the word "car"
- Vowel team, or vowel-vowel in which the second vowel is silent, as in the word "coat"
- Consonant-le, as in the word "cable"
- Diphthong, or vowel-vowel in which the two vowels together make a third sound, as in the word "couch"
