L.I.F.E Literacy Is For Everyone
College is not important for everyone. If you are on a college track and prepared to go to college, it is important because it increase your general knowledge, enable you to gain new knowledge, and most importantly expand your mind and polish your thinking skills.
Some might respond by saying that college is important because you will get a good job and make lots of money. That statement is not necessarily true and it is rough around the edges which emphasizes another aspect of why college is important. College helps to smooth the edges and enlighten while also improving the ability to communicate effectively. College provides opportunity to practice critical thinking, critical listening and critical responding both written and verbal . College provides the experience of mingling with many different types of people, opinions, views and expression. It is an institution which exposes students to a to a world outside of the microcosms of familiarity. Learning to function outside of ones comfort zone and how to respond to multifarious differences broadens ones perspectives and not to be trite, teaches tolerance. Many or all of these skills and attributes can be attained without college but college is the gateway and the arena that specializes and imposes demands which entail a formal sized education supporting high level thinking.
