Determine which formula can be used to find the required measurement directly.


Given:  a, b, c   Find: m/ C = Answer


Given:  b, c, m/ C    Find: a = Answer


Given:  a, c, m/ B    Find: b = Answer


Given:  a, b, m/ C    Find: c = Answer


Formulas: a^2 = b^2 + c^2 -2bc cos A / b^2 = a^2 +c^2 -2ac cos B / c^2 = a^2 + b^2 - 2ab cos C / None of these

I'll do the first one for you. Look for the formula that uses a, b, and c and has only angle C in it. The answer is:


c2 = a2 + b2 - 2ab cos C


Solve for angle C:


2ab cos C = a2 + b2 - c2

cos C = (a2 + b2 - c2) / 2ab

C = cos-1 ((a2 + b2 - c2) / 2ab )


Can you figure the rest out now? Find the equation that uses the givens and has only the quantity you're looking to find as the unknown.
