My son has dyslexia. When possible, he would listen to an audio book. His comprehension of the material went up significantly!

With young readers who are having comprehension challenges, I would suggest that they use the close reading process. They would be asked to underline parts of a sentence that had more important information than the remaining parts of the sentence. You would build this process up to the student only underlining important parts of a paragraph. In this manner, the student could review what was important only, This process has helped many of my young students in the second and third grades.
