Weaknesses are important to improve upon because they can be very detrimental to a person's life. Physically speaking, a certain weakness can be potentially life threatening. If a person has a weak cardiovascular system, for example, strengthening it could add many years to their life. Weaknesses in a person's psychology are also worth improving upon. As another example, if someone has a bad temper, learning to understand the root of the anger would likely improve the quality of relationships in that person's life and save them from dysfunctional relationships. Looking at a bigger picture, from an evolutionary standpoint, strength is preferable to weakness because it means an organism will survive and thrive longer.
