Increasing vocabulary is one of the easiest and best ways to improve your reading comprehension and writing. When you increase vocabulary, you differentiate the way you write sentences, foster various sentence structure and length and show off your vocabulary knowledge. Oh, and by the way, you'll notice an increase in your grades, as well!

Reading and memorizing, if you are solely aiming to expand your vocabulary bank. It takes time and effort to do so. I recommend using flashcards to study the words that you find from any resources, and you can also prepare a notebook specifically for this purpose! You can easily study from your flashcards when you are traveling on a bus, or eating lunch by yourself. This is the most efficient way to increase your vocabulary.

However, if you want to do more than that. I suggest you to read at least one article from newspaper everyday. As time goes on, you will know more vocabularies than you used to!

One way to dramatically increase your vocabulary is to study Greek and Latin suffixes, prefixes, and root words that help make up the English language. Knowing the meanings of those parts makes it possible to know the meanings of many more words. For example, if you know that the root "bio" means "life", and "ology" means "study of", then you know biology is the study of life. You can understand other words ending in "ology" like psychology (study of the mind) and you can recognize "bio" as meaning life in many other words, like biography (a written story of someone's life). You can exponentially increase your vocabulary very quickly through these studies!
